Three Weeks After Christmas, Ohio COVID Hospitalizations Trend Down

 

January 15 marked three weeks since Christmas and two weeks from New Year’s celebrations – and statewide hospitalizations have trended downward, according to the Ohio COVID dashboard.

Statewide numbers for COVID patients hospital beds dropped 29%, ICU beds 25% and those on ventilators declined 26%.

Ohio is divided by the Hospital Preparedness Regions – eight regions in all.

Below is a breakdown of COVID utilization by region, comparing statistics on December 16 versus January 17.

 

Region one is made up of the following counties: Williams, Fulton, Lucas, Ottawa, Defiance, Henry, Wood, Sandusky, Erie, Paulding, Putnam, Hancock, Seneca, Huron, Van Wert, Allen, Mercer and Auglaize.

Inpatient bed utilization decreased from 700 to 475 – a 32% decline;

ICU bed utilization decreased from 186 to 132 – a 29% dip;

Ventilator usage decreased from 122 to 94 – a 23% drop.

 

Region two is comprised of the following counties: Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula.

Inpatient bed usage decreased from 1,016 to 711 – a 30% fall;

ICU bed utilization decreased from 283 to 210 – a 26% slide;

Ventilator usage decreased from 127 to 99 – a 22% decline.

 

Region three counties are: Darke, Shelby, Miami, Champaign, Preble, Montgomery, Clark and Greene.

Inpatient bed usage decreased from 473 to 356 – a 25% drop;

ICU bed utilization decreased from 100 to 88 – a 12% decline;

Ventilator usage decreased from 88 to 76 – a 14% dip.

 

Region four encompasses these counties: Wyandot, Crawford, Hardin, Marion, Morrow, Knox, Logan, Union, Delaware, Licking, Madison, Franklin, Fayette, Pickaway and Fairfield.

Inpatient bed usage decreased from 841 to 580 – a 31% decrease;

ICU bed utilization decreased from 235 to 146 – a 38% drop;

Ventilator usage decreased from 176 to 94 – a 47% decline.

 

Region five encompasses these counties: Richland, Ashland, Medina, Wayne, Holmes, Summit, Stark, Tuscarawas, Portage, Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana and Carroll.

Inpatient bed usage decreased from 1031 to 686 – a 33% decrease;

ICU bed utilization decreased from 215 to 151 – a 30% slide;

Ventilator usage decreased from 152 to 93 – a 39% drop.

 

Region six counties are: Butler, Warren, Clinton, Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Highland and Adams.

Inpatient bed usage decreased from 764 to 683 – an 11% decline;

ICU bed utilization increased from 174 to 193 – a seven percent increase;

Ventilator usage increased from 131 to 137 – a five percent rise.

 

Region seven covers these counties: Ross, Pike, Scioto, Hocking, Vinton, Jackson, Lawrence, Athens, Meigs and Gallia.

Inpatient bed usage decreased from 116 to 81 – a 30% decline;

ICU bed utilization decreased from 27 to 11 – a 59% drop;

Ventilator usage decreased from 16 to 4 – a 75% reduction.

 

Region eight spans the following counties: Coshocton, Muskingum, Morgan, Guernsey, Noble, Washington, Monroe, Belmont, Harrison and Jefferson.

Inpatient bed usage decreased from 216 to 114 – a 47% drop off;

ICU bed utilization decreased from 45 to 31 – a 31% decline;

Ventilator usage decreased from 33 to 25 – a 24% reduction.
